Syd Hoare (1939-2017) was a British judoka and author. Syd competed for Britain in several major competitions including the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. Syd established the British Sumo Association in the 1980s. His books include the bestselling A to Z of Judo and his memoir A Slow Boat to Yokohama.
